Nice video analysis discussing the typical ignoring of context when discussing this infamous scene in Final Fantasy X.
Final Fantasy X is a love-it-or-hate-it affair among the franchise’s fans. The haters find it too linear and despise the main character Tidus. While it has a good share of flaws, I adore it wholeheartedly and think Tidus is one of the best protagonists in the series, undergoing a great change from a whiny seventeen year old jock to a selfless hero. The game also has a fabulous story, touching on themes of organized religion, sacrifice, and family bonds, and great character interactions. The game has remained one of my favorites since my early teenage years when I first played it, a rare feat for most of anything I loved over ten years ago.
