When you think about it, music videos are like silent films, conveying a story without words. Pure image. Here are two notable music videos which reference this medium.

Smashing Pumpkins channels film pioneer George Melies.

Coldplay takes on the glitzy look of a late-era silent picture. Looks like a less intense Tod Browning feature.
