Jonathan Rosenbaum discusses Greed, McTeague, and von Stroheim

An interesting discussion with film critic and historian Jonathan Rosenbaum about Erich von Stroheim’s truncated masterpiece Greed. Comparisons are made to McTeague, the Frank Norris novel off which the movie is based, and the content is analyzed. Do be warned they get a few facts off and I’m not sure I believe the anecdote about von Stroheim exchanging blows with Louis B. Mayer over the honor of womanhood (honestly, if Mayer had as many physical fights with stars and directors as some people have claimed, he must have needed boxing gloves stored in his office). Still, a positives outweigh all else. Enjoy!
